I hit the 1000 mile mark on the drive to the beach today. On an open stretch of road with no one else around, I may or may not have set the active exhaust to sport mode and put the pedal to the metal. For a short stretch.

Oh God. 460 horsepower. 8 grand on the tach. 32 valve dual overhead cam v8. I cried a tear of happiness.

Congrats! There’s recently been a lot of talk from my friends about their exhausts lately (stock is great or they’re getting aftermarket), and while I genuinely love the Cayman noises... it’s not always easy to elicit. I was just today missing the GT500 “Style” axle backs I had on my 14' GT. Thinking about some cat backs for the Cayman lol

“Fun” exhaust can make for a fun day for sure. I had flowmasters on my old Charger and they were great. A good balance between quiet and burble/loud.

We passed another Mustang on the way to beach and he had a ridiculously loud exhaust. I just couldn’t live with obnoxious pipes all the time.

The active exhaust is a revelation. Quiet and mellow in “quiet” mode, fun in “normal” mode, loud  as hell in “sport” mode and I’ve never even run it in “track” mode, lol.

Good luck with your exhaust search!

How do you compare your exhaust to the classic V8 sound? My 14 stock sound was good but it just didn’t sound like it burbled and crackled. It was too smooth. I think a lot of guys on the forums agreed at the time too. That’s why I got the GT500 “style” from AM because it was a Ford Performance part and wasn’t ridiculously loud.

Also, I wanted the active exhaust in the Cayman SO BADLY but there wasn’t a single car in the country I could find that had it and my other requirements. Turns out, the general difference between normal and sport mode though does change it enough to notice. Is track mode on your car that huge of a difference from normal?

Its still a v8 sound, but the pushrod v8 on my Charger was old school sounding and the active exhaust on the coyote engine is new school. V8, but high revving. Hard to explain, but I like both. The new engine just has a certain high revving v8 sound that’s closer to Ferrari than the traditional deep pushrod sound.

You can set a schedule for the exhaust modes. I set mine to 12pm to 12am quiet mode. In essence it’s 24x7 quiet mode. I got kids, dogs, parents roaming the streets in my suburban neighborhood, so I want it quiet most days. And I go to work early. No one wants to hear v8 blaring at 6am. But.......a flick of the button on the steering wheel on the exit ramp to “sport” mode and I feel like Mario fucking Andretti.

A schedule for the exhaust mode is just....idk I’m equal parts impressed and disgusted lol Sounds awesome though! I almost got the GT350 as an upgrade from my GT which would have been the most glorious V8 sound, also was looking at F-Types, but neither drove like a Cayman. Sounds like your engine is almost getting a GT350 vibe which is a great thing to sound like.

I’m sure that Cayman makes some great sounds too!

Yea, the GT350 is on another level. Mines got the vibe, but nothing sounds like that flat plane crank motor.
